Rooftop type resident photovoltaic systems have been widely used globally. However, due to factors like loose module joints, poor contact, damp wiring, or insulation rupture, DC arc drawing can occur, potentially leading to fire hazards. In such events, as long as there is light, photovoltaic components continue to generate high-voltage electricity, making direct firefighting extremely dangerous.
To ensure personal safety and prevent fire risks, the ERS Rapid Shut-down Switch was developed. String inverters are common in residential and commercial solar systems. While integrated DC isolators cut power for maintenance, they do not de-energize the high-voltage DC lines (600~1500V) between the roof and the inverter. In a fire emergency, when firefighters shut down the AC power, the ERS firefighter safety switch detects the grid failure and automatically turns off the isolation switch within 5 seconds.
